Is it possible to control your weight gain when you’re pregnant?

I’m not pregnant but for the future i really wanna stay small. I’m just wondering if it’s possible to maintain somewhat your fitness level when you’re pregnant so that when it’s over you don’t have to work sooo hard to get back to you’re desired weight.

Not at all. Sorry.
Definitely, BUT you need to see a pregnancy fitness expert so that you don’t over exert yourself and harm the baby. It’s a great idea to exercise while prego, it keeps your immune system up, cholesterol down and good blood flow. Plus, you can ALWAYS use extra muscle when it comes time to push!
Let me revise, definitely exercise if it’s safe, but don’t try to control your weight gain, that’s a natural process. You can decide to eat healthy things and enough for two, but don’t try to keep weight down, there’s going to be another body living and growing inside you, so the extra weight, a lot of it will be the baby, water and fluids.
if you are so worried about your weight more than about the health of the child, forget it from now. you will gain weight all over, like it or not. getting your figure back to its original shape is going to be the least of your problems after you give birth.
Sure. You can continue many low impact exercising up through out most of your pregnancy. Just ask your doctor about any exercise you are considering before hand. But many people still do yoga and swimming. And walking is great for all pregnant women.
And yes you do need to gain weight, but you don’t need to over do it. You don’t need to “eat for two”. Actually only in the second and third trimester do you need to eat more. And honestly that is only about 200-300 hundred calories more. So a small snack or two will do the trick.
- I had two c-sections in my thirties. And I have a flat stomach now. There isn’t any reason you can’t stay fit even if you have a baby if you are committed to it.
Some women will say no, but I very strongly disagree. I am the mother of 2 children and I have always been able to maintain my figure.
I’m sure this will offend some of the women here, but there is really no reason to gain 40 or 50 lbs during a pregnancy unless you were underweight to begin with.
If you are at a normal weight, the recommended gain is 25-35 lbs by the end of your pregnancy.
If you exercise during your pregnancy and maintain a healthy diet (contrarily to popular belief you do not need to “eat for two”, you only need about an extra 300 calories per day in your last trimester) you can keep your weight gain to a minimum.
Yes dont eat like a cow, eat healthy and only take in an extra 300 calories thats all you need for the baby you dont have to eat for 2 more like 1 and a bit. I didnt work out just walked and eat like normal after I had my baby I fit in the same jeans I was wearing before I got pregnant I didnt starve myself I hate whatever I wanted Pizza almost every other day watch the empty calories
If Heidi Klum can have a baby and 6 weeks later is in the Victoria Secret fashion show we can do it too!
you should at least gain 25lbs but it’s not necessary to gain any more than that
Considering you’re not only gaining baby weight, but also placenta, amniotic fluid, extra breast tissue, etc you’re *suppose* to gain weight. Average is somewhere between 20-30lbs.
Just stay fit during pregnancy, don’t eat a lot of fast food. When pregnant women believe they can eat whatever cause they’re eating for two (That’s not true btw) THAT’S when they gain a lot of weight.
Right after birth you should most likely drop about half of what you gained and the rest shouldn’t be that hard to work off.
i didn’t think so as with my first i gained 50+ pounds but with this pregnancy i havent eaten as much, not eaten any junk foods and i have had regular exercise and im going to be 36weeks on friday and so far i have only gained 18pounds which as stayed the same now for about a month. so i would say you can control your weight
good luck
It’s very possible to control your weight while pregnant by making smart food choices and continuing to exercise.
Your pregnant weight gain depends partly on your genetics, which you have no control over. If your mother was thin and gained tons of weight then you may too. You can maintain your fitness level – which is very different than weight gain – til very late in your pregnancy, but dieting while pregnant is really a stupid idea.
EDIT : Forgot to mention, if you wind up having to have a c section, forget anything you thought about keeping your weight down. Your flabby empty stomach will hang there and you will look like you gained 20 lbs in your gut alone just from the lack of muscles there after the surgery.
How about not getting pregnant. Don’t try to starve yourself to maintain a sexy body…if your mind set is still like this when you do try to conceive, you’re not ready for parenthood. This is selfish of you. When you become pregnant, your life revolves around your childs needs, no longer yours. Grow up! If you care about your body so much, don’t have children. They come first. If you really want kids, stay healthy during the pregnancy, and work it off afterwards…it’ll be worth it. I did it, so can you. i gained 48 lbs, lost it All in five months.
It’s definitely possible to control your weight while pregnant but you also have to accept that you may still gain more than you want to.
I exercised during my entire pregnancy and I ate healthy foods 95% of the time, and I still gained 40lbs regardless. It was hard seeing those numbers on the scale go up and up… but you can’t expect to get pregnant and not gain much weight.
I lost 30lbs of it within two weeks of having my daughter, and I still have 8lbs that I am trying to lose… but I also don’t mind my body with an extra 8lbs (I’m 128lbs, was 120lbs pre-pregnancy).
It really depends on what you’re comfortable with and how hard you work at it. I don’t have time now to be exercising constantly… I work full time and look after my daughter, and I have a husband that needs my attention too. So I don’t exercise as much as I need to in order to lose these last 8lbs, but like I said… I’m okay with that (for now).
So I guess I would say YES, you can control your weight… to a certain extent. As long as you eat healthy and exercise, then that’s all you can do. But do NOT diet during pregnancy, just eat healthy food.
Good Luck~
You can do the same things you did before pregnancy. And just remember you aren’t eating literally for two, you only need roughly 300 extra calories a day.
