@THEcuntofthecunts no cardio and HIIT are not the same thing. Cardio is typically exercising at a moderate intensity for a designated period of time. HIIT is alternating between intense periods of exercise and moderate exercise. This is typically done for a shorter amount of time than cardio because you are working harder. More calories are burned in a shorter amount of time
Ok… But the trainer said I should lift some weigts with my legs. On that big machine thingy.. Does the word cardio mean the same as high intensety training?
this guy was funny, he should be on tv
not if you lift weights…
just look at boxers, they work out cardio several hours each day and have big muscles.
he idea that long cardio doesnt burn seems to make sense since sprinters do have a more muscular less fat type of body coz they train with more intensity-and muscles burn fat evn at rest
riding a bike will build muscle but over doing it can hurt the chances of building muscle i ride my bike Monday through Friday about 12 miles and over the past 2 years now ive developed large muscles but since your knee is hurt be careful you do not want to tear or cause anymore damage to your knee spend about 30 minutes every other day on the bike take it easy if the pain gets to be to much stop and take a week off and in no time youll see results
they should have a stim machine that can speed up the process of healing your knee..(im going through the same thing) just do the excersises they give u and ones u think of
Damn, I have a damage on my knee, so I can’t sprint or even jog
I started working out last week at physiotheraphy center, trying to work up muscle around my knees & and stuff. Any ideas how I can do this fast or some good way of burning fat fast? I use the bike alot (in the gym), but are you saying that too much of that will only “burn away” the muscle?
Well if active rest means a slow jog or brisk walk then yes I think its a good comprimise. I always advocate a balance of everything. That is hard for some people because it requires more work then just doing the same thing over and over. If you do decide to do that however I think interval training is your best bet. I can go into the science but ill keep it simple and leave you with this. Each form (interval, HIIT sprint, long slow runs, fast short runs) has its own unique benefits.
@thegarbageman21
What are your thoughts on interval training (taking the heart up to maximum capacity followed by active rest, and then repeating the process). One could stretch their workouts to the 20-30 min range. Would this be a good compromise between the two ends of the spectrum?
LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL I did not rob that lllllllllllllo
Thank you for your comments.
The fat burning zone isn’t a myth. Im sitting in med school class answering this so I know the science. It burns more fat % and when you work out longer you burn more calories than you can in 10 min of HIIT. For someone who is fit that just needs to lose fat and not muscle I think HIIT is great. Its just not for those needing to drop big weight. Not to mention its dangerous to sprint if you are very out of shape.
That being said I advocate balance. Use all the methods not just one.
Yes HIIT is great and what omar says is accurate. The issue is as follows. No matter how hard you excersize in HIIT . . . it can only last maybe 10 min tops. You can’t sprint forever. IT is true you burn calories after your workout and so on. If you are seriosly overweight however long less intense cardio workouts are better. That doesn’t mean walk though. People mistake “low intensity” for easy. A light jog for 50-80 min is what it takes.
I see your point as well. I am wondering where I could get a reliable source of empirical data suggesting one over the other. I know Men’s Health and a few other sports journals have advocated interval training as the best overall fat burning approach (assuming it is done properly for 10 to 20 min). I have also heard of the fat burning zone of long slow cardio. How would you respond to Omar’s initial defense of HIIT (muscle loss, fat storage increased, etc.) Are these charges accurate?
Omar good video but I don’t agree fully. Im a medical school student but I also bodybuild / do triathlons. HIIT training is a good means to burn fat but even though you burn more calories “after” your session . . . its still not as many as you can burn in a long low intensity run where you hit the infamous “fat burning zone.” No matter how hard you sprint in 10 min you can’t burn what you can running for an hour. Its good for lifters looking to lose fat but not for those who need to shed 30+ lbs
Do what works for you. Some people advocate stretching before and some after. But both advise WARMING UP!. Especially if you sprint you need a good warmup. I stretch before and im a triathlete / bodybuilder.
man that’s some professional answer, thanx alot for taking the time really helpful.
@vjlord i like people who take care of their bodies but don’t get too neurotic. this guy is great
@GabrielNotTheAngel i have researched the answer to this heavily and the answer is found in what professional athletes like soccer players do before a game. ANSWER: before a game, they dont do static stretches, they do dynamic stretches. dynamic stretches. type type “dynamic stretching” into you tube and that will be your answer. static stretching can only be done when warm which means after a workout. be safe and keep good form.

Get serious?
very entertaining and very informative!! keep up the good work! thanks
I already work out 5 times a week (mix of resistance training and cardio) and this convinced me to change “my cardio” to HIIT.
great video, what do you thin about SRETCHING before warming up?… I’ve heard some say stretching is only good after workout, I pulled my hamstring the last time I did sprint, so , what else would you recommend for warming up?…
i like his t shirt. .
